My character design entry for Atomhawk's 2023 Art Competition, Under Strange Suns.

The Gazing Owlmoth is an apex predator on its home world, where the Black Sun emits far more ultraviolet light than visible light rays. Because of this, the flora and fauna have evolved to utilize glowing parts of their body to camouflage, mimic, and intimidate. This particular creature uses the hypnotic patterns on its wings, crest, and tails to stun and frighten its prey before swooping in for the kill.

This was a fun 1-month challenge for me, especially since I had a family vacation in the middle of it. The prompt, 'Under Strange Suns', gave me the idea of exploring the fact that many real animals glow and have patterns only seen under UV light. This was also a fun chance for me to design a creature, something a bit out of my comfort zone.

Fan concept art of Battle Academia Gwen for League of Legends. Gwen is a second-year student and member of the Assassination Club at Durandal Academy. As a reject of the Academy’s popular cliques herself, Gwen stands up for the students who are bullied, rejected, or nonconforming. Her unwavering optimism combined with a pair of deadly scissors are a powerful combo for defending the Academy’s outcasts.

One of my cousin’s DnD characters in the style of Hades. Once the god-like being named Sif, the embodiment of Justice, Reign and her counterpart, Eir, split into two as they were cast down from Tyr’s Table. Plunged into the mortal realm as wingless angels, the pair, each with their own vision of justice, attempt to regain their holy powers in order to reclaim their seat at the Table.

Reign is a master-at-arms and self-righteous warrior, who brings swift justice to those she convicts with an uneven hand.

Splash art and concept art for Cyrus, the Sunforge- a fan project for a new League of Legends champion. A Solarian forge master, Cyrus’ zealous worship of the sun allows him to manifest weapons made of pure sunlight. As a member of the Ra’Horak, a group of Elite Solari warriors, he practices his craft and hones his battle skills at his sanctuary close to Mount Targon’s summit.

In early ideation, I explored the zealous forge master concept through the lens of different regions of Runeterra, the world of LoL, like Noxus and the Solari. As a forge master, Cyrus can switch between 3 different weapons, each with different playstyles, altering his attack range, mobility, and abilities.

A fictional magazine concept following a young orphan boy named Tahir in a distant future. After venturing outside of the desert trading city he called home, Tahir discovered a lifeform unknown to his world. Little did he know that this animal shot portals out of his mouth, portals to different worlds, dimensions, and even times. Befriending this cute yet… unpredictable creature, Tahir catalogues his various journeys throughout time and space in this fictional magazine.

A fictional TTRPG campaign cover for Rifts of the Abyss, a story about a merfolk scout whose curiosity led her to discover eldritch sea monsters below the Atlantean territory, deep in the Abyss. This campaign would introduce new aquatic races, monsters, spells, and locations.

The Legend of Dorothy Pendragon (TLDP) is my reimagining of The Wizard of Oz (TWO) as an animated film for young adults. In TLDP, the world of TWO is meshed with the medieval English themes within the legends of King Arthur. Dorothy Pendragon is plucked from her world of luxury as the daughter of a wealthy lord, and dropped into the magical Land of Oz as a mere peasant girl. She ventures forth in a land unknown, making friends and enemies along the way, all while trying to find her way back home.

Wanderer is a world-building project about a wandering knight’s adventures from the past, to the future. Set in a world filled with odd magic and even odder characters, the wandering knight journeys alongside his trusty fungal friend and gets them into a predicament when they activate a time-warping spell that propels them into the future. A blood-thirsty witch doctor and his eldritch thug seek out the pair of time travelers, in hopes to use their time magic for their own nefarious reasons.

A fun mock-up keyframe for a fictional dating sim about a coven of witches each with their own unique witchcraft. You are a new witch joining the coven, eager to make new friends and perhaps create bonds stronger than friendship.

A class project for a new TV show aimed towards teens and young adults. The show follows Lily, a young and lonely witch from the Flooded Forest. During an age where witches are being hunted and blamed for their magics cursing the common folk, Lily must protect the forest and its inhabitants from an expanding human city and its corrupt ruler, Lord Augustus. What Lily doesn’t know is that there are other witches just like her, slowly banding together to stop the hysteria and bloodshed that the witch hunt has created.

A mock video game project called EXILES. EXILES is an open-world RPG set in a medieval fantasy setting. The story follows the high elder Kairon and his young granddaughter, Lucia, after a band of Tiefling hunters discovered and pillaged their enclave. As Tieflings, a race unliked for their hereditary connection to Hell, they are exiles of the world, forced to travel alone in search of somewhere that might welcome their kind.

Bands of Tiefling hunters threaten to wipe their race out for good, cutting off their horns and using them to craft magical talismans of strength. Kairon and Lucia are the only two to escape their raid and must help each other survive and find their place as EXILES.

A funny character concept exploration of “what if in the future, mechs are a popular form of transportation for the rich?” and “what if the yakuza had their own mechs?”

The design I chose was inspired by the Kappa, a type of chaotic oni that lived near water. Their heads would have a bowl of water on top, and if the water was poured out, they would die. And so, a Kappa warrior mech with a jacuzzi for a cockpit, fitting for a proud yakuza boss!
